Introduction
In July 2021, the European Commission presented its ‘Fit for 55’ legislative package, which aims at aligning the EU’s climate and energy legislative framework with the European Green Deal’s target of at least 55% emissions reduction by 2030.
The Fit for 55 package will address a wide range of policy areas, including transport, energy and international trade. This landmark package, covering 11 legislative proposals, includes revisions of several existing legislative acts – among others the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the Renewable Energy Directive and the Energy Taxation Directive. It will also introduce new instruments, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
